I can’t Even Name This

This all started on a Monday. I still can’t explain it outloud so I typed it. First I got on my Pokemon Crystal rom.

Nothing strange right? That’s what I was thinking aswell. Then I decied to check my pokemon.

The? Is all I could say besides I hadn’t got that far. Then “POKEMON RED” is what I said next. So I closed that rom and opening the Pokemon Red rom.

Appeared next I continued to my save. Then showed the overworld with my charater right beside the Cinnabar Island’s Famous East coast I decied to surf. On the first try I got a MISSINGNO.

I sadly already had one so I clicked run. Got Away Safely appered. Then I began to surf up and down to taunt the data ever more I encountered a Snorlax lv 135 then A Golduck lv 141 then Snorlax again. Then one more MISSINGNO.. (It was called MISSINGNO. the period was intented) Then finally what I hoped I was looking for. A wildlv 80 luckly I threw a masterball. Then the ditto it was my fist time catching so it kinda suprised me.

(This was against the ditto)I caught it aswell. after all that I hoped that was it. I returned to my crystal rom my pokemon still the same. “F***” I yelled in rage. I felt a bit sleepy so I went tobed. The next morning my friend emailed me

Subject:Pokemon & you

Sender:Kioku

Messege:OMG I CALLED YOU LIKE FIFTY TIMES! Why didn’t you answer???:(! Anyways can I come over so we can trade! email me back. “Phone I didn’t hear it once.” I headed down stares to ask my little sister did the phone ring. All she said was “Phone I don’t think you need that go play pokemon crystal right now!” I didn’t move in confusion. She pushed me up the wall ,and screamed. I got out of her grip and ran my my friend’s house. I told her what my sister was doing. She came with me. This time my sister acted all innocent. my friend brought her DS so we traded. Finally I asked if I could spend the night. She responed with “Bring your laptop the one with the Crystal Rom!”

Catch an Abra

Catch an Abra

I didn’t believe it when he told me. Part of me still didn’t believe it when the investigators turned up on my doorstep. I was his best friend, and he had been gone for a while now. My only choice was to tell them what he had told me, but as I told them, it was hard for me to believe that maybe, just maybe, it had all really happened. I can still hear Greg telling it all to me now…

The Houndoom without a tail.

Hello~

I shall try to make this brief.

I was simply trading Pokemon from Pearl to HG since I decided to start a new adventure in Pkmn Pearl. I was trading when it then came to a Houndoom. I love Houndoom and even though I do have three Houndooms in Pkmn HG, I decided to transfer this specific Houndoom from Pearl because he is not mine, so then I could have a variety of numbers when it comes to the contest, and I do appreciate having Pokemon from other trainers.

The Houndoom appears to be fine when I checked his stats:

Houndoom Stats

He seemed normal enough and good to trade so I commenced. However, when the trade started and he made his animation from Pearl, I noticed something peculiar which I thought “meh, maybe it’s just a small, temporal glitch.” However my mind started to wander (considering I do love to read creepypasta’s, specially Pokemon related) if this could be something I should worry about. The trade then finished and when he arrived to Pokemon HG, his tail had gone missing, in trade that is…

Quickly I decided to check his stats, but again, he seemed fine.

Houndoom Stats HG

But now I was concerned. Although true, I did use AR on Pokemon Pearl, but this Houndoom isn’t mine and every other Pokemon traded just fine. I wondered if this is a glitch that only occurs to a certain Pokemon (in this case, Houndoom.) However, I wasn’t going to let this ‘peculiar’ Houndoom live within HG so I traded it back into Pearl, which is when I then took the shots to prove, the tail that has gone missing.

Tailless Houndoom

This is within Pokemon HG.

Tailcut Houndoom

And this shot is from Pokemon Pearl.

I am uncertain what to do with this Houndoom, whether I should set him free, delete him along the history of my Pearl character or keep him for the sake of saving whatever happened to this poor Houndoom from his previous trainer…

(I apologize, I did check and it does seem to be a pokemon glitch, I could try re-writing this entry, I was just uncertain what to do with it. Perhaps I could try converting it into a creepy story, or perhaps allow someone else to give it a shot. A reply would be appreciated if I did anything wrong.)

Revenge on a Cardtrige

You know, not all Pokemon games erase all memory when you start a new save file, like I learned. I didn’t care at all for the Pokemon that I hadn’t traded to my white version from my black version, and I was ready to start a nuzlocke challenge.
I chose Snivy as my starter, as I have all of them on white and he is my favorite. I got a shiny on my first try, something that I wasn’t even searching for. I played with dupes claws and everything was going normally. But oddly enough, when I got to the next town, N and his team plasma gang weren’t there. My friend had owned it before me, so I just assumed it was AR glitching or something else.
I went over to Juniper and she said, “You are Unova’s biggest failure!” Talk about weird. Once again, I thought it was AR glitching and went on with the game. I eventually saw Bianca, but she didn’t battle. She just said, “My father! He’s gone!” Okay, now I knew this wasn’t normal. This was beyond a glitch. I ran into the tall grass, and encountered a Liepard on route 1. It said, “Mac’s Liepard wants revenge!” The only moves it knew were Destiny Bond, Revenge, Grudge, and Mean Look. I used my Golduck (I had already beaten Elite 4) and knocked it out with a single Hydro Pump.
Once fainted, I did the escape rope animation. I found myself in N’s castle. Now in my party was Don’t the Gardevoir, Go the Absol, Inside the Froslass, Our the Mismagius, Savior the Darkrai, and ! the Celebi. It reminded me of Lost Silver, but this one spelled out, Don’t go, our savior! I walked into the playroom and found a Misdreavus. The Misdreavus  when I talked to it it said, “Misdreavus seems to have been tortured” I ran all the way to N’s chamber and his sprite’s old place was a MissingNo. I interacted and I was in a battle. It said, “N knows how you ditched your Pokemon. He feels their pain.”
I then shut off the game. I didn’t come back to it for a while. But soon, my curiosity just got the better of me. Hey, it happens to all of us. The game said, “The save file has been corrupted.” I was devastated. I couldn’t see my shiny Serperior, my trusty Golduck, none of them. They were gone, and I haven’t gone back to this day

Pokemon Bloodshot Ruby

My favorite game of all time is Pokemon Ruby. Think of how surprised I found it at a pawn shop for five dollars. The man said he just wanted it off his hands, so I bought it. I just so happened to have a DS with me (I forgot to take it out of my pocket when I put a Pokemon in the Pokewalker).

I hopped in the car, put in the game, and booted up the DS. It was normal until I started the actual game. It said on the title Pokemon Bloodshot Ruby, and had a picture of Groudon’s eye. I have read  many Creepypastas, so I knew that it was either “cursed” or just hacked. Try option A. There was already a save file, and as I always do out of curiosity, I tried it out. The player was named Victim and his party consisted of a Misdreavus, a Gengar, a Dusclops, a Sableye, a Banette, and a Gardevoir. The only move they knew was Destiny Bond. I went into the Lilycove Pokemon Center and checked the box. Inside were only 3 Pokemon: a Mew, a Celebi, and a Jirachi. I was most excited about the Mew, as it is my favorite Pokemon. I taught Mew Fly, and then tried to fly to Littleroot Town. But when I clicked on it, it said, “Mew doesn’t want to fly there.” Okay, so then I just flew to Oldale Town and walked downwards.
The music there was that of Mt. Pyre. Cliche, I know, but it’s true! I entered my house and didn’t see my mother. I checked the TV and it said, “Your mom is shown being held hostage!” I saw that it was in the Weather Institute, so I flew to Fortree City and headed there.

Once inside, I headed upstairs and  walked towards where the scientists were bunched together. But instead of scientists, there were all four members of the Elite Four. It seemed to be an event, as I couldn’t move and the CPUs were ramming into poor Victim’s mother. Not actually ramming, but moving back then running straight into her. Close enough. I advanced forward once being able to move, and talked to her. She said, “Would you enjoy death?” with a Yes or Yes option. I chose Yes (big surprise) and my character ran out of the Weather Institute and hurled himself off of the edge of the cliff into the water. The river carried him south, and he hit the rocks.

The game then automatically reset itself and it said, “You deserved what you got,” with a blue screen behind it, like when it tells you the battery has run dry. The game will now automatically reset anytime I press Continue, and I cannot start a New Game. Maybe a blessing in disguise?

Deoxysy’s world

Hello. My name is ZakDeoxys. I will tell you about my … Horrid … experience. I always read about people finding haunted games or some weird glitch happening in there game that mentally or physically scaring someone for life. I had read Creepypastas, but now I was living one.

I was at a garage sale. I met a 18 year old named Jhon. He was selling books, movies, and games. I went over to the games pile and looked at some of them. I didn’t see anything interesting at all. Not until I saw a little bit of green. i always liked the color green. it was a Pokemon Emerald game. It only costs 2$ so I bought it. i went up to the guy and asked to buy it and the guy said ” Are you sure you want … that game??? ” I told the guy I’m sure. He sold me that game and he whispered “Evil game. Good riddance “! I shrugged it off and bought it anyways

When I got home, I grabbed my Gameboy and shoved the cartridge in. The intro was normal but Prof. Birch’s lecture was very weird. It said “Welcome to the world of DeOxYs.” Just like that. “DEoXyS rUlEs ThIs WoRlD. tHiS iS dEoXyS’s WoRlD “.What? Deoxys’s World what does that mean? After the intro,i played through the game and chose a treeko. Eventually I was facing the character’s father,(Norman) When his dialog looked a little weird.

He said “… DeOxYs WiLl GeT yOu. kEeP yOuR gUaRd Up.” Then behind him, was a big black deoxys. His tentacles were as sharp as razorblades. He slashed right through his chest and ripped him in half. I thought that was just a little too extreme for a kid’s game. It said ” WhY dOn’T yOu ReMeMbEr Me??? I wAs YoUr BeSt FrIeNd!!! ItS mE. SpEeDnA, FrOm eMeRaLd. IwAs YoUr TeAm PlAyEr!!!” I was in tears.

I remembered now. I traded in my old Ruby version to get Black 2. I never thought about what I they thought. They weren’t even real. “We ArE rEaL” Said the Deoxys. “I wIlL sHoW yOu HioW rEaL wE aRe!!!! Was the game talking to me? A battle started. SpEeDnA wants to fight!

“why DiD yOu Do ThIs To Me ??? WhY dId YoU aBaNdAn Me??? WhY dId YoU tRaDe Me In??? I tHoUgHt We WeRe FrIeNdS!!! YoU sAiD yOu LoVeD mE!!! BuT tHeN YoU DiSoWnEd Me!!! NoW yOu WiLl PaY tHe UlTiMaTe PrIcE!!! NoW fIgHt FiGhT fOr YoUr PaThEtIc LiFe!!!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The game was actually talking to me.

I threw out my Blaziken. I used blaze kick but it bearly scratched it. “ThAt DiDnT hUrT mE” He used curse and the game said “ blaziken has died” I only had one pokemon left. It was called SpEeDnA. It knew kill self, kill self, kill self, and kill self . I used kill self (the third option) and it said “SpEeDnA killed self”

After that, it showed me. It showed the deoxys stab me in the eye. Then in the arms. Than in the legs. Then in me @!#$. Than it showed it do one last thing. It said “SpEeDnA used psycho boost” It started ripping out my intestines, tore off all my skin, and pulled out my heart. I puked right on the floor. It then made a pink orb, raised it in the air, and shoved it into my lifeless body. It blacked out and I heard a SPLAT!!! sound.

I stayed in my room for a whole week and didn’t say a word. The next week on T.V. I saw a picture of the man and It said that he committed suiside. He jumped off the empire state building.I have never spoken about this experience until now. And that is why I hate deoxys.

A new trainer approaches!

The battle theme started, as always. I grinned. I had decided to play Pokemon Crystal again, for the first time in ages. My savestate had been sitting there, along with the ROM and Emulator, for almost 5 years now. I smiled a bit wider when I saw it was just a bug catcher. My team was increadably strong. Dragonite, level 60. Typhlosion, level 58. Raichu, level 40 (from Kanto). Pidgeotto, level 35 (my flyer!). Gyrados, level 70. Pichu…level 5. I forgot about him.

The bug catcher had been near my home town. I don’t remember him being there, but I had no worry.

“I’LL SHOW YOU THE TRUE POWER OF BUGS!”

Heh. It seemed he thought he had a chance. His team was mearly 3 Caterpies. All level 7. They fell easily. I was walking away, heading for some better challanges, when it happened.

My screen blacked out, flashed, and the message “A NEW TRAINER APPROACHES” came up, It was glitched and horrible, the music being a strange, off-beat rendition of the biking theme. It was the bug catcher…but….he looked bad. He was cut and bloody, covered in glitched pixels.

“I WILL SHOW YOU ll lll l ll ll l “

His team was the same, but the graphics seemed decayed. Between each Caterpie he would speak to me.

“YOU LEFT US ALL HERE”

“WE’RE ALL DYING”

“OUR LIFE DEPENDS ON YOU!”

He kept appearing, looking more and more ragged, his text de-generating into a mess of pixels. I hated him. The others were the same as him now. Whenever the others spoke, it was glitched. I had apparently abandoned them. They were dying without me there to look after them.

I deleted it but all my other games started acting the same. Mario Party characters glitched and fell over a lot. Should I have left them alone that long?

Pokemon Deep Red Version

I nearly died of laughter when I saw the cartridge sitting there, surrounded by bubble wrap. You see, I had ordered a copy of ‘Deep Red’, an Italian horror movie. It was a Beta tape, nearly new according to the picture I saw. However, after sending over $50 dollars across the pond and waiting almost 4 weeks…I got this.

A pokemon Red cart that had been sloppily painted with dark red paint. The logo had been scraped off and replaced with masking tape that read “Deep Red”. There was a note, brief but to the point.

“I am giving you this game to save myself. I was checking my Deep Red tape to see if it still worked only to find the audio had been corrupted. It sounded like demonic chanting…and the film kept showing the killer doll as it walked into a room, grinning in an evil manor. I had my copy of Pokemon Red with me and was playing when it happened. Please, take this curse!”

I chuckled a bit, unable to take such a stupid premise seriously. It made me think of one of those lame creepypastas….that’s why I’m here, telling you this. I do still have a classic Gameboy, albiet in rough shape, and decided to play the game. The game started up without a hitch. There was still a file on it even. I grinned and checked it out.

They were named HATCH. I felt my lips suck into my face. The Hatchet Murders was one of the subtitles for Deep Red. Hilarious. I checked the team, finding one of the worst I’d ever seen. A Pikachu, a trade-in in all likey hood, A Ratatta and Oddish. They had all the badges though…even if they were still in Pallet Town. The Pokedex was complete, bag empty. I checked the PC and found there was only 1 pokemon in there. Missingno. I checked underneath, looking for more glitch pokemon that may be hidden. Nothing.

“Damn!” I barked at the game, wondering who would either trade away or release all their pokemon. I checked the Pokedex again…they had owned them all at one point. Does it change that if you release? No idea. I left and went into the tall grass, only to find a sublet…lack of encounters. Nothing. I paced back and forth over a lone area of grass for 5 minutes and nothing happened.

After about 20 minutes of exploration I decided to go to town. However, when I went to go into the Viridian forest the game glitched. A sudden explosion of black pixels and I heard the cave theme play. It was slower though…very much so. Letters appeared on the now black screen.

I like little boys like you…

Over and over again. Pokemon cries mixed with sound effects started rattling through the speakers and the game crashed. The save file is still there, but will not open. I tried deleting it but the game crashed.

What should I do with this game?

CoNcept

Where to begin…I suppose it would be best if I started out by telling you who I am. I’ve recounted an experience of this nature to you before, though there’s a good chance that you weren’t able to read it before it fell away.
http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Wally <- This story. I’m the one who experienced the glitch/event -I honestly don’t know what you’d call it- of Wally’s funeral.

As saddening as that was, I tried rather hard to experience it again. Certainly something like that couldn’t be a fluke or some freak happening. I mean, we all know the people behind our cute pokemon games have dark minds. If it happened, then it had to be somewhere in the code, right?

However, nothing I tried seemed to trigger or recreate the event. Perhaps it really was a fluke…Or maybe even a dream, something I made up and somehow brought myself to believe.

Now, onto a different yet related matter.

Surely you’ve seen the concept art they revealed of N, the misinformed antagonist of Pokemon Black and White. If you haven’t, it’s going to show up here in just a moment, don’t worry.

I was chatting online with a friend of mine a few months ago about the speculations we had about the characters in Pokemon Black and White. Things like: How Cheren hated you for being better than him. How Bianca was mentally and Emotionally abused. And, a personal favorite for obvious reasons, how N was actually Wally.

That’s when he showed me N’s concept art.

[S = Him / R = Me]
S: So what do you think about N?
R: You’re asking be what I think about N? Like I haven’t had a hundred moments of Fanboyism since he was revealed.
S: lol, man-crush.
R: Shut up!
S: XD Anyway! Have you seen the concept art they released for him?
R: I don’t think I have. You’ve gotta show me!
S: lol, calm down. I wouldn’t have brought it up if I wasn’t going to show you.
S: There’s this one: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8ajkij79f1r2en1ko4_1280.jpg
R: Cute
S: This one: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8ajkij79f1r2en1ko3_1280.jpg
R: Eh
S: And there’s also this
S: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8ao79mQLo1r45vupo1_500.jpg
R: …
S: I know right? Resident Evil: Unova
R: I don’t think it’s funny.
S: What? N not pretty enough for you this way?
R: That’s not it.
R: He looks like a decaying Wally.
S: Holy shit.
R: Yeah.
S: This makes me wonder…
S: This almost happened, I wonder if they happened to include it in a beta version or something?
R: I don’t think so. If there was an actual beta version out there with this on it, wouldn’t the information have been leaked a lot sooner than this?
S: Maybe it was just so uneventful that no one even cared. Like mash-up of all the new stuff in the game and no real story details.
S: Here
S: https://secure.join.me/820-229-310
S: I’m gonna go look, come watch.

We took a few hours to scour the internet, finding a lot of dead ends in bogus ROMs and torrents, before we finally decided to check Ebay.
The search there yielded few results. Most of them were making outrageous claims with outrageous prices. I’m not paying $150 for something that’s probably a fake. However, there  was one that seemed promising. If only for the considerably cheaper price.

The seller had some pokemon related name -I can’t remember what- and a rather unprofessional looking sales page. He claimed to be a former member of Gamefreak, but that was hardly believable just by the way he described the item. It seemed like he was a cross between someone who barely understood English and just learned that letters and numbers could be used to replace whole words. Much like his user name I don’t remember what it said, but I can assure you that it was painful to read to say the least.

The game was only $35, a bargain compared to the others listed, and my friend really wanted to get it.

S: I’m gettin’ this.
R: Are you shitting me? This is just as bad as the others. I’m shocked ebay hasn’t taken these jokers down yet.
S: It’s just $35, how bad could it be?
S: If it’s a bust, I get another Black game.
R: Whatever floats your boat, man.
S: lol, you sound so unamused.
S: Go in on it with me.
R: What?
S: Chip in!
R: Why should I?
S: Because if you don’t, and this is legit, I’m not going to show it to you. And I know you’re curious about it.
R: …
S: C’mon~
R: Fine! I’ll give you $5
S: $5? Cheap.
R: Yeah, well.
S: You’re just not cool sometimes, you know that?
R: lol, I’ve never been cool.

He paid for the whole thing at the time and I slipped him five dollars the next time we actually spoke face to face. Personally, now that he had actually paid for it, I was certain it was never going to show up. Nearly a month of waiting certainly didn’t help that.

But, it did eventually come and, at first, it wasn’t what either of us had expected. Well…I expected it. But there was no point in rubbing it in his face when he was as pissed as he was.

He showed up at my doorstep and slapped the game into my hand, “The damn thing doesn’t even work.”

“What?” It was hard to act surprised.

“It doesn’t work. My 3DS and my DSi won’t even register it as a game, it just tells me what there’s nothing inserted.”

“So why did you bring it over here?”

“So you could try it out.”

“So…It didn’t work on either of your systems, what makes you think it’s gonna work on mine?”

“Just go try it.”

“Fine. Fine.” He was being awfully huffy over losing $30 but, he did fall for some stupid listing.

We went upstairs and I grabbed my own 3DS and DSLite, inserting the game into my 3DS first with no results.

“See? Nothing.” Not sure why he felt the need to point that out.

“Maybe it’s region locked? The guy obviously wasn’t from around here.”

“He should have said that in the description!”

I laughed, something he didn’t appreciate much, “I don’t even think he knew those words.”

“Try the other one.”

“Why would it—-Fine, whatever.”

I humored him and picked up my DSLite, the system I had been playing Pokemon Emerald with -it was still in the GBA slot- and inserted the Black game. I turned it on and…nothing. I was about to turn it back off and call it a bust when my friend pointed out something.

“Wait a minute.” He jabbed a finger at the screen, “Look at that.”

I jerked the DS away from him a little to see passed his finger and, I’ll admit, I was a little excited with what I saw…not to mention a little confused.

At the bottom of the screen, where the name of the GBA game in the slot would normally be displayed, it said ‘Pokemon Black Version’.

I tapped it and something actually booted up. The screen turned black and the Nintendo and Gamefreak logos appeared normally as they would in the Black and White games. But as the screen once again faded to black, it was pretty obvious this wasn’t the actual game.

Before anything actually happened on screen, a sound came out of the speakers. Rather, it seemed like it was trying. It was just a low, staticy rumble, like my speakers suddenly decided to give out on me.

As the black faded away, both screens displayed something: The top was simply a dark, overcast sky scene. Dark clouds slowly moved from the left or the screen to the right. It wasn’t terribly detailed or anything but it had the quality of a special scene, like when you summon the dragons before your battle with N. My attentions, however, were on the bottom screen.

What seemed to play out as a sort of montage. Ghetsis’ sprite walked in from the right side of the screen, taking his time, yet I couldn’t help but sense he had a purpose. It was Ghetsis after all.

He walked towards the center and stopped, turning to face upward for just a few seconds, before turning back to continue his trek across the screen. As that screen faded away, I noticed that another sound had been added to the static rumble. Every few seconds, the sound for the ‘Perish Song’ attack played softly. —The combination of noises didn’t seem to serve a purpose beyond adding to the already bleak atmosphere.—

This continued for about five or six more areas. Each time Ghetsis walked in, stopped, looked, and waited. And each time he simply walked away. I was starting to believe this was just a walk cycle test or something. Which made absolutely no sense considering that the character movements haven’t changed too much over the years.

That’s when he got to a place that made my heart hurt. The area just outside of Petalburg city. The area I watched the characters in my Emerald game take Wally’s coffin.

Again, Ghetsis stopped, looked and waited. The staic noise spiked for a second and the screen flashed white. This seemed to be what he had been waiting for as the ‘!’ bubble popped up over his head. Just a second afterward, a dialogue box appeared at the bottom of the screen.

“Come to me.”

At his call, the Shadow Triad appeared around him and he continued,

“The one we need is here. Dig.”

The screen cut to black for about ten seconds and the static/Perish Song mix continued on -which is about the only reason I didn’t shut it off. When the screen faded back in…well, the hurt certainly didn’t go away.

The area had been dug up and the four of them were standing around poor little Wally’s coffin. One of the Triad opened it (they pretty much slid it off to the side like a rock you use Strength on) and the screen flashed white again with another spike in static. Things began to get more turbulent on the top screen, the sky growing darker and the clouds moving a little faster as if pushed by a strong wind, and the Dark Stone item rose up from Ghetsis’ sprite on the bottom screen, causing all four of them to retreat to a safe distance off screen.

The Dark Stone rose all the way to the middle of the top screen, now with more definition and quality (again, like the summon scene), and gathered enough energy to strike one powerful bolt of lightning onto Wally’s open coffin before falling down to rest with Wally’s body.

The coffin and body sparked and crackled with excess electricity and Ghetsis and the Triad approached it.

“The Black Hero, fallen before his time.”

Wally’s body twitched and slowly sat up, tuning his head to face Ghetsis and the screen, acknowledging the fact that he had been spoken to.

“Rise. We have a revolution to prepare.”

Wally slowly stepped out of the coffin and shakily moved forward, standing just one space apart from Ghetsis. His sprite was very unstable, he shook even when standing still.

For a moment they all stood there in silence, Wally’s sprite shaking unstably, until Wally began to walk off towards the left side of the screen.

“Wait!” Ghetsis shouted, his speech bubble shook to indicate the force in which he spoke, “Where do you think you’re going? I revived you, you’re to do as I say!”

Wally stopped, just a few blocks left between himself and walking off screen, but he didn’t turn back around, “Something…I need.”

“And what would that be?”

Wally hesitated for a moment and his Gardevoir teleported in behind him. It cried out -that haunting and mournful cry…- before they both turned to face the screen. Much like the ones who attended his funeral before, I could actually feel judgement in their tiny dot eyes.

The screen faded quickly from one scene to another, from the overworld to the zombie-like concept art I was shown several weeks before.

The image of N/Wally wasn’t ‘normal’. Obviously it sketchier, more rough and rugged than the other close-ups of the characters in-game, but it also didn’t move the way it should. It didn’t blink and the mouth didn’t move, it just shook. Subtly, not like massive movement or anything, but the insability of Wally’s sprite seemed to transfer to the image.

It was then that I realized that the music had stopped. In it’s place was a faint steady, raspy noise. Like the breathing of a severe asthmatic or someone who was struggling for air on a respirator.

Finally, a dialogue box popped up and Wally spoke. The ‘breathing’ sound rose to a painful sounding whine for a second, as if he were trying to choke back a sob as he answered Ghetsis with one word:

“… C l o s u r e.”

With that, the screen faded back to the overworld and, before Ghetsis or the Triad could protest, the two teleported away.

The screen cut to black again for longer than just a few seconds, but I kept watching. After that kind of exit, I knew there was more.

And I was right, after about thirty seconds or so the screen faded back to the overworld.

I pressed start to see what had changed only to find that the setup was a little more normal this time. The top screen displayed the overworld and the bottom screen displayed the options. Rather…it displayed a single option: Pokemon.

I picked the option, half expecting the team to be full of pokemon with cryptic names considering how everything seemed to be going, but that wasn’t the case. Inferno, Dailoros…this was my Emerald team right down to the levels.

It was then that my friend, who had been silent since the game started, made an amused sort of noise. When I looked back at him, he nodded at the top screen. The area was Route 1, in the grassy area just below the entrance to Accumula Town, it was completely quiet…and my character sprite was that of my character in Emerald. It looked different of course, to better match the newer games graphics, but it was definitely him.

I pressed down on the directional pad to see if I had control. I did, but I couldn’t move any further beyond that little patch of grass. The only way to go was up.

As I moved up into Accumula Town, everything was silent and there was a distinct lack of people. The person hanging around outside of the Pokemon Center was gone, the Center itself was completely empty. It seemed like the area had been built, but nothing but the appearance had been added yet.

Of course that was just my assumption, I hadn’t been beyond the first building. Perhaps everything worth checking out was all up towards the top in the beginning stages of the game’s development, what did I know?

I stepped out of the Pokemon Center and I lost all feeling for a second or two. The silence of the area had been replaced by that raspy breathing-like sound and, let’s face it, it very nearly scared the shit out of me.

I moved to the left a little to move up and explore the rest of the area and the game stopped me just one block away from the side of the Pokemon Center. The breathing sounded louder on the left side of the speakers and, to satisfy my curiosity, the screen panned over a little bit to show me what I kind of expected to see.

Wally was standing there.

He shook, but made no attempt to move closer. I assumed it was my job to initiate contact, so I edged my character over to the left. I closed the gap between the two sprites, but nothing else happened. I was unable to move. I couldn’t speak to Wally no matter how many times I mashed the ‘A’ button. Nothing.

After a minute or so of nothing, I assumed the game had finally decided to freeze up on me. At least until a dialogue box popped up. It wasn’t a speech bubble like in Black and White and their sequels, but an actual dialogue box from R/S/E.
It stayed empty for a few seconds before slowly typing out:

“W h y”

It felt like there should be more, but the dialogue box faded away and a ‘!’ appeared over Wally’s head. He quickly took a step back and his Gardevior teleported in between us. It let out one sharp, very angry sounding cry and the screen flickered rapidly. A battle had been initiated.

The characters slid in to place. Much like a wild encounter, Gardevoir was already in the battle position, but my own character sprite in the bottom left didn’t make a move to send any pokemon out. He didn’t have the time to; Gardevoir had already begun to use what looked like Shadow Ball, but the dialogue announcing the move called it something different:

-Gardevoir used Black Hole!-

Despite the announcement, the move was never actually used. The move animation for Black Hole (Shadow Ball) continued to cycle and my character was never hit. Since it seemed like it was my turn, I chose the available Pokemon option and sent out Inferno. He had helped last time, I assumed he would give me a repeat victory.

Of course, I was wrong. When is someone ever right in these situations? The second Inferno hit the field, his sprite shifted as if he had used the Brave Bird move and disappeared into the black mass in front of Gardevoir.

-Inferno was sucked in!-

Before I had the chance to pick another pokemon to more than likely send to the same fate, my five other pokeballs flew from my character sprite as if I had thrown them, sucked into the black hole the opposing pokemon controlled. With each addition, the black hole grew just a tiny bit larger.

-You’re out of usable pokemon!-
-Gardevoir is almost ready…-

Gardevoir let out one more shrill cry, what I assumed to be a sign that I was about to unleash whatever the hell it was preparing, but it was cut off.

“What are you doing!?”

Wally’s disturbing and shaky sprite slid in beside his pokemon, his raspy breathing mixed in with the battle music, which had shifted to the low HP alert since my pokemon were gone. An unsettling combination to say the very least.

“This isn’t what I wanted! I just—-“

Wally’s sprite was pushed back and the sound effect for Protect played  only through the right speaker, making it sound distant from the playing field.

-Gardevoir protected its trainer!-
-Gardevoir used Black Hole!-

Rather than releasing the attack to hit my trainer, the black and purple mass of energy continued to grow until it blacked out both screens. The music quickly shifted into static before cutting off completely.

It seemed that was the end. My trainer was gone, my pokemon were gone, Gardevoir was gone, and Wally…I don’t know. I assume he was safe as his pokemon protected him before obliterating itself and my character. My finger brushed against the power button as I prepared to shut the system down, but my friend stopped me. And for good reason too, something was slowly typing out on the top screen.

“I wanted revenge. But not like this.
All humans do is hurt. All YOU’VE done is hurt.

I understand now, though.
My friend gave up his life for whatever is now left of mine.
I’m not going to let that go to waste.

No more pain will come from trainers like you.
As long I’m still breathing,
I’ll liberate them all.”
