I didn’t know what to expect. Rustling grass was mysterious. You would never know what you would run into. I was playing Pokemon White and I was pretty confused. I’ve already got those three elemental monkeys, but it’s said there are more species of pokemon then that. Needless to say, I was still eager to find out.
I ran into the rustling grass and a battle started. With a Lilligant. I wasn’t too surprised that I found one in the wild, but I was surprised that it appeared in the shaking grass. Even then I could have just gotten a shiny one through hacking. But I shrugged it off and decided to catch it.
I sent out Bait, a shiny Horsea I got through hacking. It’s a bit hilarious considering it’s at level 100. Of course, I had masterballs, so there was no fighting. Just caught it. I decided to name it Grace, which is actually a better name than Bait or Fox.
After that I used rare candies to level her up to 100. It took a while, but I was proud of the result. I decided to use a code that could teach Grace every and any move, even those that are not on a TM. Why not; I used it on Bait and it works great!
I thought about which move I should teach her. Flamethrower? Surf? Seed Flare? Then I decided to have a little joke and taught Grace the moves Sing, Hyper Voice, Screech and Perish Song. Grace had no mouth, so I thought it would be a hilarious joke!
Well, it was a joke…
I went to route 16 for battles. It’d be too easy to beat them. I already walked through a lot of trees and walls just to get here anyways. I had the idea to battle the backpacker with the Scraggy. I sent out Grace for her first battle. This will be too easy, I thought. I chose the attack button and commanded Grace to use Sing.
“Grace can’t sing as she has no mouth.”
I looked at the dsi screen in puzzlement. I tried again. Same message. I tried again. Same message. I gave up and tried the other moves.
“Grace can’t scream as she has no mouth.”
“Grace can’t screech as she has no mouth.”
“Grace can’t sing death songs as she has no mouth.”
I thought this was a cruel joke. This battle is Grace’s first and she can’t use her moves. At lest the Scraggy wasn’t doing anything, but still. I switched her out and replaced her with Fox, my shiny level 100 Liepard. One Slash and Scraggy was defeated.
After the battle I instantly made the choice to fight another backpacker. And I forgot to switch the places of Grace and Bait. So Grace was the one who was facing Drilbur. Despite it not working in the last battle, I tried to use Hyper Voice.
“Grace can’t scream as she has no mouth.” Again.
I groaned in frustration and repeatedly picked Hyper Voice.
“Grace can’t scream as she has no mouth.”
“Grace can’t scream as she has no mouth…”
“Grace has no mouth and she can’t scream…”
“Grace wants to scream but she has no mouth.”
“Grace really wants to scream but she has no mouth.”
The messages became different every time I pushed the button. Grace started to shiver too. Then some text appeared. “Grace silently cried…” I started to shiver myself when that appeared. I instantly switched out Grace for Fox and defeated Drilbur.
After that, I opened the menu and selected ‘Pokemon’. Only Grace, Bait and Fox were there. That was normal. Even without other pokemon, the battles were always really easy, so there was no need for new pokemon. I clicked on Fox. I check his stats, then I checked Bait’s stats. Then I checked Grace. Her sprite looked sad. Really sad. Almost looked depressed. For some reason, I didn’t question why at the time.
I entered Lostlorn Forest using the walk through walls code. I opened the menu to switch Grace for Fox, but for some reason, Grace was gone. I groaned in anger then shrugged it off. She was useless anyways, I thought. I entered the tall grass and encountered a Tranquill. I sent out Fox and used Metronome. Then Fox used Roar. Then after the Tranquill ran off…
“Grace used Slash.”
I was startled. I thought Grace was attacking Fox. But she wasn’t. Instead, nothing happened. Just that text. Fox was fine.
After I was returned to the overworld, decided to make my way to the end of the forest, as I thought there were some secrets there. There was also supposed to be a trailer there. But it wasn’t. Nobody was there. Except a bloody knife. My heart sank. I thought Grace did this. I THOUGHT. I ran off from the scene and checked my pokemon out of paranoia. Grace was back. I clicked on her. Then I regretted doing that.
Grace had cut a grotesque Cheshire smile onto her face. She had sliced off the interior of the bloody outline, so you could see red and black emptiness inside her head. Her colour looked the colour of rotting leaves, excluding the parts that were white, and her head flower was wilting and dying. Despite the smile, Grace had extreme horror and sadness in her eyes.
My blood turned cold. I managed to stop myself from screaming though. I tried to run out of the forest, to get to the pokemon center, to get to the pc so I could release Grace, when I ended up encountering another Tranquill. I sent out Grace. Since she now had a mouth, I thought I could get this over and done with by using Hyper Voice.
“Grace can’t scream as she has no voice.”
The battle ended with just those eight words. I was shocked. What the hell was happening?! Suddenly I heard a slashing sound. Then a scratching that sounded like somebody was scavenging through crushed meat. I panicked and opened the menu. I checked my pokemon to find that Grace was gone again. I checked Bait. He looked devastated. As if a loved one died. I checked Fox. And it turned out he was who Bait was mourning.
Fox’s throat was very messily torn and ripped open. Blood was spewing out of the wound. I started to hyperventilate. Fox was dead and Grace is probably going to kill me too. Well, that’s what I thought. Then a battle started. Turned out I was facing Grace.
Her flower around her neck, or whatever it was, looked torn and bloodied. Grace’s colour now looked more darker, almost black and the white parts of her body now looked grey. Her carved smile was still the same, although bloody. And she looked more devastated then Bait. I sent out Bait. I checked his moves. None. There were none. Grace decided to make a move.
“Grace sang.” The song wasn’t so much of a song as it was the sound of someone gurgling, choking and moaning, all at the same time. “Grace sang a song.” This time it sound like someone humming a ominous tune before breaking down into gurgling and choking.
“But she can’t.”
I checked the moves for Bait again. It had struggle. So I used it. “Bait tried to struggle…”
“…But he can only mourn Fox.”
I was horrified. This couldn’t be happening. This shouldn’t be happing. This should never happen! Bait shivered as Grace made another move. “Grace screamed.” Nothing happened. “But couldn’t.”
I wanted to turn off the game, but curiosity got the better of me. No choices showed up but Grace did nothing either. Nothing happened for at lest a minute. Until Grace suddenly spoke up in text.
“I only wanted to sing…”
“I only wanted to sing a beautiful song…”
“Why can’t I sing…?”
“I have a mouth…”
“I have a voice…”
“So why can’t I sing?”
Tears started to well up in my eyes. So did Grace’s. “Can I scream?”
“Grace screamed.”
A loud shrill screeching scream came out from the speakers and I ended up dropping my dsi while trying to cover my ears. After a few seconds, the screaming stopped and I picked up my dsi. Bait was dead. Blood pouring from his eyes and sucker mouth. And his eyes were still open. I think I died a little when that happened.
Grace had tears pouring out of her eyes. So did I. Grace sobbed and buried her bloodied face in her torn leaf hands.
“I only wanted to scream…”
“I only wanted to make a sound…”
The screen turned black except for Grace. She was in the middle of the screen while faint static played in the background. She shivered. Then one last text before the game shut itself off and never came back on.
“Grace sang a beautiful lullaby.”
“But couldn’t.”
